Pennywise to bring Cali punk to The Showbox Market

-- USE THIS PHOTO ONLY - 11-1-12Pennywise is celebrating their 25th anniversary this spring with a West Coast tour, featuring supporting act Teenage Bottlerocket. Expect the stage barriers at the Showbox Market to be in full force as Pennywise powers up their brand of power pop punk. Standing shoulder to shoulder with other ’90s CA punk acts Rancid, The Offspring, and Sublime, and with such hits as “F**k Authority,” “Alien,” and “Bro Hymn” under their belt, this show looks to be explosively loud and obnoxious (as it should be).

Original lead singer Jim Lindberg is back in the mix after a hiatus of a few years, and this is their first time back in town since the old lineup re-formed. Teenage Bottlerocket hails from Laramie, Wyoming, which may seem like a strange place for punk to emanate . . . but hey, the disillusioned masses are everywhere. Their influences include The Ramones and Misfits. Much pogo-ing shall ensue.

Christine Mitchell has been poring over album liner notes pretty much since she acquired the skill of reading, and figured out the basic structure of rock songs at an early age. Whether it’s the needle popping into the first groove of the record, the beeps that signal the beginning (or end) of a cassette tape, or digital numbers ticking off the seconds from zero, music brings Christine happiness, ponderous thought, opportunities for almost scientific study, and sometimes a few tears. When she started attending live shows two decades ago, a whole new piece of the puzzle clicked in and she has been hooked ever since.
