This Weekend: NadaFest!!!!!

NadaFest

NadaFest

We at Seattle Music Insider are incredibly fond of our friends at NadaMucho and their commitment to emerging local artists. So when they announced that they were “not having a music festival” after hosting last year’s intriguing #41for2015Fest we were a bit crestfallen until we realized what was really going on.

NadaFest 2016 takes place this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at Fremont’s Substation, which is a delightful nook of a venue. The innards of the building will house two stages, with the main room serving as the “#41for2016” stage with new up-and coming acts that NadaMucho has identified, and the back room showcasing the “#41for2015” stage, which will feature artists on the previous year’s list of bands (who are very much still worth keeping an eye on).

Several #41for2016 acts have already begun to make a splash in the local scene, most notably headliners WILD POWWERS and DoNormaal, both of whom played Neumos at this summer’s Capitol Hill Block Party. The former’s hard-hitting power trio couldn’t be more delectably divergent from the latter’s incisive rapping, and that’s to Nada’s credit. Other favorites of ours include Everett’s Greet The Sea, prog-psychers Cloud Person, and the twangy Low Hums.

And the best part? It’s just $10 a day! It’s easily the best value of any festival. Except…it’s not a festival…right? Check out the schedule and bands below, along with a few photos of some of our favorites.

Christine Mitchell has been poring over album liner notes pretty much since she acquired the skill of reading, and figured out the basic structure of rock songs at an early age. Whether it’s the needle popping into the first groove of the record, the beeps that signal the beginning (or end) of a cassette tape, or digital numbers ticking off the seconds from zero, music brings Christine happiness, ponderous thought, opportunities for almost scientific study, and sometimes a few tears. When she started attending live shows two decades ago, a whole new piece of the puzzle clicked in and she has been hooked ever since.
