Seeing Pink & Rocking Out With The Word Alive

The Word Alive. who recently brought down the house in front of a sold out crowd at The Showbox SODO

Crowd surfing. Mosh pits. Everyone screaming along with every chorus. All typical for a headliner at a hard rock show. Not so typical for an opening act. However, it was definitely the case when it came to The Word Alive. who recently brought down the house in front of a sold out crowd at The Showbox SoDo opening for Falling In Reverse on ‘The Drug In Me Is Gold’ tour.

You know you’re in a room full of die-hard fans when you can hear nearly every word from every song throughout the crowd ringing in your ears, including songs that have only been out for a week! With excitement and energy filling the room, red and pink lights enveloped the stage, purposefully capturing lead singer Telle Smith‘s bright pink jumpsuit and perfectly matched pink hair. He has definitely embraced that hue, which can be seen across their brand throughout the years but especially so for this album’s promotion cycle.

Smith sang with pure passion and harmonies, leading the crowd through a masterful (albeit short) setlist which included a definite fan favorite “Misery” ( a 2017 single), and the title track from their latest EP, MONOMANIA. Throughout The Word Alive’s set it wasn’t even apparent that guitarist and backing vocalist, Tony Pizzuti, was under the weather. Despite the illness, he played and screamed on every song.

MOMOMANIA, the band’s sixth EP, is perhaps their greatest most personal and meaningful album to date. It includes the song “Numb Love (Misery II)”, a sort of ‘continuation’ of the previously mentioned hit, “Misery”. Track 8, “K.F.”, (which stands for ‘Kyle Forever’), is a beautiful tribute to the band’s friend Kyle Pavone, lead singer of We Came As Romans, who passed away in 2018. The impactful drum fills on that track by Matt Horn and the emotional vocals throughout the song shows the pure love and impact that Pavone had on the The Word Alive, and how much he meant to them. That will be an emotional one to hear live, perhaps at a headlining show where their setlist isn’t confined to only six songs.

If you missed their show on this tour, fear not! The Word Alive assures fans that this year is all about MONOMANIA, as they’ve already started releasing more tour dates with a lot more to come!
