Rock band Skillet made a stop in Seattle at Showbox at the Market in support of their latest album, Unleashed. This is the band’s first headlining tour, and they put on a solid, entertaining performance that was packed with great sing along, fist pumping rock anthems.

Skillet is known for their rock solid, energetic performances, and this evening was no exception.  The crowd pushed their way to the front and were packed shoulder to shoulder as the band took the stage amidst a thundering roar from the crowd. Singer / bassist John Cooper, guitarist / keyboardist Korey Cooper, guitarist Seth Morrison and drummer Jen Ledger started their highly energized set with “Feel Invincible” before seguing into “Whispers in the Dark,” “Sick of It,” and “Rise,” each song having extra intros, extended bridges or outros. Everyone in attendance was singing and jumping along with the band.

Skillet played with ferocity, and they are very proficient musicians. Drummer Ledger did not let up on the energy she poured into pounding on the drums. Guitarist Cooper jumped in place and running onto and hopping off of the platform in front of her. Guitarist Morrison, though full of energy, was the mellowest of the group, with some occasional head band banging and guitar twirling. Bassist / vocalist Cooper was ferocious in his performance, pouring every ounce of energy into his vocals.

The band played many fan favorites. “Monster,” “Not Gonna Die Tonight,” “Hero,” and “Comatose” were executed flawlessly. Bassist / vocalist Cooper was very active with the audience, getting them to sing and scream along, show their hands, and jump around. The band finished out their awesome performance with “The Resistance.”

In direct support were alternative hard rock band Sick Puppies, which is made up of drummer Mark Goodwin, bassist Emma Anzai and guitarist / vocalist Bryan Scott. They played a solid 40 minute, ten song set. They are touring in support of their latest release, Fury.

Getting the evening started were Devour the Day, which consists of bassist Joey “Chicago” Walser, guitarist Blake Allison, drummer Ronnie Farris and lead guitarist David Hoffman. They are touring in support of their latest, S.O.A.R.
