DOPE Chills Out & Rocks Hard At El Corazon

DOPE @ El Corazon 10-5-17 (Photo By- Mocha Charlie)Earlier this month, DOPE made yet another tour stop in Seattle this year (their third), and crowds again flocked to see them. They hadn’t played El Corazon in nearly a decade, and lead singer, Edsel Dope, referenced that, “It’s playing clubs like these that keep food on our tables. We love playing these shows.” Sometimes smaller clubs make him feel more at ease “like home,” and he can “chill out” and really “be himself” with fans at a different pace while still rocking hard on the stage. And rock hard they did. Flashing lights and a trio of LED screens synced with the music allowed the musicians silhouettes to stand out while jumping and thrashing about.

Their tour mates on this leg, (Hed) PE , gave a performance that might leave some scratching heads, but in a good way. If you love listening to their tracks, and have seen them perform before, their latest set will give you a completely new experience. Lead singer Jared Gomes, has perfected a way to seamlessly incorporate a melodica into their music, and it showcases a different side of his musical ability. You couldn’t help but see heads turn throughout the venue. Their set was still a mix of rap rock, but you could definitely hear more hints of reggae throughout, and fans were drawn in to rock out.

Local bands American Wrecking Company (who are no strangers to the local rock scene), What Thou Wilt (playing their CD release show), and TwasmonauT (who humbly commented that this was their third show ever), opened up the night.
