Electric Callboy: Hottest Ticket In Town

Over the weekend, I attended what I can honestly say was the hottest show I’ve been to in years, (and I’ve been to hundreds), both in temperature and performance. After having to postpone their tour last year, (including dates for their first time back in the US in nearly ten years), due to the illness of one of their lead singers, Nico Sallach, who suffered a severe jaw and middle ear infection, Germany’s Electric Callboy FINALLY returned to Seattle.

This may very well be the hottest band in the world right now, as their entire US TEKKNO TOUR along with international dates sold out months ago, and you may have never heard of the band yet. I’d consider calling them “MEGA METAL”, because they’re metal, and so much more! What you’ll find is a bit of everything- Metal, Death Metal, Comedy Rock, Metalcore, Pop, Funk, Disco, Electronic, Rock, Acoustic, Melodic, Industrial, Techno, and they even throw in an occasional classical piano… They’ve got those and more, all wrapped up in one hot band, and they know exactly what they are doing. WOW, do they do it well. The fun thing is, not every song sounds the same. Each album has something different to please a variety and multitude of fans.

Although Sallach’s ear infection may never heal, (forcing him to wear large headphones on stage as inner ear monitors are useless), the shows must go on and he gives 110% along with the rest of the band. This band discovered long ago to just let loose and go all in. They showcase the unexpected-whether that’s in their songs, live shows, or music videos. They’re having as much fun as possible and have an IDGAF what people think attitude; but, they have every intention to GAF in everything they do, and it’s paying off. If you still have no idea who I am talking about, forgive me while I tell you to stop reading this right now and head over to wherever you stream/play/watch music these days and check them out. Electric Callboy‘s “schtick” and sound has actually been captivating metal fans and beyond across the globe for more than a decade. Their live shows are some of the most energetic and fun you may see, with each band member having multiple costume and wig changes, on stage creative screen images, strobe lighting effects and a variety of multiple confetti canon blasts throughout their set, (not just your typical “one and done”, you may see at other shows). You also get their vocal and musical range that has fans scrambling for the hottest tickets in (any) town.

Fans here at Seattle’s Neptune Theatre lined up early, many dressed in similar costumes and wigs from the band’s videos, (if you still haven’t seen those, do it!). They may have been prepared to see the band, but the heat inside the venue was something they’d just have to push through…And push through they did. Mosh pits, screaming, dancing, jumping, hugging, smiling, laughing, cheering…You bet! And, when the floor got slippery from all of the condensation dripping from bodies, and as hot air loomed from floor to ceiling, and with confetti sticking to every surface in the room, the energy in the room did not stop. The room was on fire, oddly enough without any pyrotechnics. The one thing you think you might see at a metal show, (plumes of flames, fire blasts), their stage set up didn’t have it, nor did they need it. Fans pushed though til the end, continuing to sing along to practically every song, (a twenty-song set!), word for word. Impressive for a band that has only been here once, having played here in 2013 at (the now closed) Studio 7.

If you are lucky enough to hold a ticket to see them live this time around, congrats and have fun! I highly suggest getting there early. Their supporting bands, Detroit’s Conquer Divide, and Sweden’s Solence have great sets that are not to be missed. They definitely get the crowd hyped up and set a great tone and pace for Electric Callboy‘s set. If you miss this tour, you should (hopefully) have better luck securing a ticket next time. (You probably could/should set multiple alarms for the day they go on sale, like I did *cough* way back in February for this show). Based on their growing popularity, I can only assume they will return to the US sooner than later, and play much larger venues in order to play to larger crowds. I’d suggest following them online for future announcements. Whatever season, and no matter the venue they play at, they’ll bring the heat for sure!
