Camping out at a city near you in the US through October, (then hopping over to the UK though November), Sammy Rae & The Friends are bringing the outdoors indoors with all new merch and props, encouraging fans to dress in their best camping outfits every night. Their Camp tour is described by the band as “Whimsical. Playful. Joyful”, and their goal is to not take anything too seriously but bring some serious fun to the stage.

The band camped out at Showbox SODO last Saturday night and had the sold-out crowd dancing and grooving throughout their two-hour set. Before they even took the stage, fans were spelling out the lead vocalist’s name, and chanting “Sammy, Sammy, Sammy”, in anticipation of seeing and hearing what they would bring to their set. New songs, old songs, and even reimagined hits, they sang, danced, kicked, stomped, jumped, laughed, and sang for, and along with, the crowd. They had fun uses of props on stage, engaged with fans, telling various stories, and even pausing to sign a toy frog a fan had brought, because why not? Typically, when you headed out to camp, there were always rules, but Sammy Rae & The Friends created their own. Sing-a-longs were abundant, and considering the crowd’s reactions, note after note, the only rule they wanted to adhere to was to just have fun!
