Palaye Royale will drop their upcoming EP Fever Dream in its entirety on October 28th. With lyrics that evolve into stories that are riddled with sex and drugs, love and hate, truths and lies, gruesome fantasies and heavy realities, lives lost and hope for better tomorrows, the six tracks they have already released from it have been, well, for lack of a better term: CATCHY AF. I caught their set over at The Showbox SODO this week, one of their last US dates on their “Fever Dream Tour,” (they’ll play more dates through Europe announced for Jan-March ’23) and seeing some of these new songs performed live solidified my opinions of what I’ve heard so far.

The band performed a solid, energetic set, playing an assortment of tracks from each of their studio albums. Lead singer Remington Leith, engaged with the crowd nearly non-stop, with the exception of when he sat at peace at the keyboard to play the intro to the EP’s title track and when took a break at one point to acknowledge a few fans in the front whom he recognized from one of the band’s first performances in Canada more than six years ago. Guitarist Sebastian Danzig dropped into the pit and engaged with the crowd a few times, and rarely kept his feet on the stage throughout the set, catching air whenever he could. (He has also stepped up as tour manager for this run of shows, not a small feat by any means.) Emerson Barrett drummed from behind his kit, in front of the bands illuminated marquee, and and played on the keys during a brief intermission while the other band members caught a brief respite backstage. Barrett is also the creative genius for all of the band’s merch, (not everything is listed on their site!), and they have one of the biggest variety of items I’ve ever seen at a show. I mean, WOW.
