SSS: Above & Beyond With The Ballroom Thieves

This past week, Seattle Secret Shows brought another sold out crowd together in a secret venue in downtown Seattle: Beyond Space. What the crowd didn’t know was who would be performing, as it’s always a “secret” until showtime!

Kristen Watt, co-founder of SSS along with her sister Carrie Watt, made the announcement just after 8pm, and the 200+ crowd were delighted to find out that The Ballroom Thieves would be headlining the evening’s lineup! This marks the band’s fourth appearance for SSS, and they always put on a superb show. The band is currently embarked on a spring tour promoting their latest EP, Unlovely, which (ironically?), debuted on Valentine’s Day of this year. Their new tunes remain exuberant, meaningful, deep, hauntingly dark at times, and toe-tappingly-catchy. Their vocal harmonies reach out and grab you by the throat and heartstrings, and their instrumental abilities captivate the mind and soul. Whether they perform in a living room, a loft, or an industrial space, their music engulfs the room, and leaves the crowd in awe. If you haven’t seen The Ballroom Thieves live before, you can probably bet they’ll return to SSS and other venues around the region again. Only thing is, if they return to play a SSS, you won’t know until…you know!

Harlequin Gold out of Vancouver Canada warmed up the crowd. This was their first time in Seattle, and what a night for them to make a debut. The crowd was into their vibes from the start, as sisters Avery and Elle O’Brien fed off the energy in the room, bringing their indie-pop sounds to life. They are currently recording their first EP and will open for TBT on the first few of their first tour dates in March.

Seattle Secret Shows are always working behind the scenes, scouring the music community and sorting through dozens of emails to figure out dates, locations, and bands that will be a perfect fit for their next show. The only thing they don’t know is who will fill the crowd. You have to be on a list in order to get in, and you have to follow them on their socials, or join their email list to know when the next show will be. We’re on it, are you?
