Swedish rock band Ghost has seen tremendous success in their career. From playing El Corazon when they came to Seattle early on, to playing an acoustic set at Silver Platter Records, to rocking the Showbox & Moore Theater, to eventually playing arenas such as Climate Pledge Arena. On August 4, 2023, they played a sold-out show at the White River Amphitheatre in Auburn, WA.
The band is known for its amazing theatrics, catchy tunes and their members: Tobias Forge, AKA Papa Emeritus IV, on vocals and band members known as the Nameless Ghouls.
As a large curtain covered the stage, “Imperium” played through the sound system, signaling to those in attendance that the band was ready to hit the boards. The curtain dropped, the stage set up to make as if the audience were attending a religious ceremony in a large cathedral.
Ghost got their nearly two-hour set started with “Kaisarion” and then jumped right into “Rats” and then without missing a beat, they moved into “Faith”.
Forge is a very entertaining front man. He wasted no time strutting all about the stage, playing to the audience, and also interacting with the Nameless Ghouls.
The Ghouls, particularly those on guitar and bass, were also very active with moving around and interacting with the crowd.
Lots of pyro, confetti, and what seemed like a set chock full of the band’s most popular cuts, such as “Cirice”, “Ritual”, “He Is”, and “Mummy Dust”, showed that the band was on point; and they sounded amazing.
Getting the evening started were Swedish death metal titans Amon Amarth, who came out with full guns blazing. Luckily and thankfully the hordes of heavy metal maniacs came out early and were treated to an amazing and heavy nine song set.
